The role owns GWP targets, distribution channels, team leadership, and product innovation in line with NBFIRA requirements
Role Responsibilities
- Set and achieve annual gross written premium (GWP) targets across microinsurance lines.
- Manage the implementation of sales efficiency initiatives, including the rollout of sales-force automation and CRM tools.
- Contribute to business strategy development and lead implementation of the sales function.
- Maintain clear internal communication so sales teams understand business performance and their contribution to it.
- Manage relationships with NBFIRA on sales conduct, market conduct, and consumer protection matters.
- Communicate new and amended regulatory requirements.
- Ensure timely review and resolution of customer complaints.
- Limit regulatory actions and sanctions against Alpha Direct arising from sales or marketing conduct.
Financial
- Review sales and performance data to measure productivity, goal achievement, and identify areas for process improvement.
- Own and manage the Sales and Marketing departmental budget.
- Monitor and maintain customer retention ratios across all product lines.
- Track key sales metrics including acquisition cost per policy, conversion rates, and broker production.
Operational
- Formulate integrated marketing strategies across above-the-line, digital, and below-the-line channels to drive brand awareness and business growth.
- Design and implement sales execution plans to convert marketing-generated leads into new business that meets company targets.
- Conduct market research to identify customer needs, competitor positioning, and product gaps, and recommend competitive responses.
- Identify and pursue growth opportunities in the Botswana short-term insurance market, including underserved segments accessible through the Insurance-in-a-Box model.
- Provide continuous training and coaching to sales agents, broker partners, and UniCoin agency staff to build technical and product knowledge.
- Support the development and launch of new revenue streams, including new product variants, channels, and partnerships.
Processes
- Ensure departmental compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Ensure seamless and accurate sales reporting through company systems.
- Ensure turnaround targets and service standards for quotations, onboarding, and policy issuance are met.
- Apply data restrictions and access controls in line with the Botswana Data Protection Act.
- Implement and oversee a Sales Force Automation (SFA) / CRM solution to drive efficiency, lead tracking, and pipeline visibility.
Service Management
- Oversee resolution of customer service issues through sales and marketing channels to meet or exceed client expectations.
- Ensure NBFIRA-reportable complaints arising from sales conduct are minimized through proactive complaint handling and root-cause action.
- Resolve escalated customer matters within agreed turnaround times.
- Maintain low complaint volumes on the internal register with documented investigation and corrective action.

1. Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s degree in business or information & technology
- Mandatory COP-Shor Term
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in a Sales and Marketing Environment
- Membership to any professional body

- Strong ability to execute work with a citizen empowerment and economic inclusion lens.
- High degree of professionalism in dealing with diverse groups of people, including Board members, senior executives, and staff.
- Proficiency in digital media, design tools, and social media marketing across multiple platforms.
- Demonstrated capacity for product and channel innovation.
- Strategic thinking and the ability to translate business strategy into sales execution plans.
